Breast Discharge : When to Get alarmed



For a breastfeeding woman, breast discharge should come only in the form of milk. However, for others, any kind of breast discharges should be cause for concern. The discharges may happen while sleeping or at any time during the day. Although in most cases such discharges are benign and normal, nevertheless a woman should still seek medical attention as there have been instances of such cases turning to infections.

There are many reasons of breast discharges. Some involving physiological changes or caused by medications that trigger certain reactions in the body.

Though such discharges may look like milk but they are not really milk. It can be brought about by hormonal changes during pre-menopause. Here a woman's health is in transition. Hence breast discharges may happen as a part of body's reactions.

Due to frequent squeezing. This can cause some discharge from the breasts. It is widely discouraged because it may induce the breasts to release some discharges of fluids that are not a normal occurrence.

Due to drugs and medications. Birth control pills and hormone replacement therapies are known to cause such discharges because they affect hormonal balances in the body.

Despite the most information saying that breast discharges are benign, one should not waste time seeking immediate medical attention. Because any breast discharge is an indicator that something is wrong with the body.
