Great Indian politics.....nowhere to be found !

We Indians know what politics actually means better than anyone anywhere in the entire world. We play politics, we live politics and we drink politics....as a famous ad line goes. We cannot do without politics. Politics is our birth right.

Starting from the royal court of Mahabharata* to today's every road corner, village, household, tea stall, school, fish market....politics is in our blood. This is our greatest heritage. We all owe it to mama Sukuni** !

This is why when time came we opted for democracy rather than other "cracies". Because only democracy will provide us all with scope for showing our Sukuni-like talents.

But wait, .......we are not saying all this out of proudness, in fact it is a shameful politics of exploitation we are seeing these days in this country. It is not democracy in real sense. It is the 'forced politics' .

What is 'forced politics' then ? Read on...

Suppose you have good source of income for a decent living. You do not want to involve in any kind of politics. No way ! Still you cannot escape. You will be forced...

Only a few examples:

(1)

When an election approaches, various political parties will come to your house for donations and requests for attending their meetings & rallies. You cannot deny them or else you'll be labelled "anti". If you do, they will burn/ransack your home if they come to power after the elections... You are 'forced' to donate !

(2)

Farmers are more exploited lot. If you do not take part in political rallies, procession of ruling party, chances are you will not get fair amount of your ration, loan from banks, monthly pension for aged people, subsidised seeds/pesticides/fertilizer etc. You are 'forced' to...

(3)

If you happen to be a Govt. employee, you know what hell like it is. Every offices has a samiti ( or commitee) affiliated to ruling party. They collect monthly donations from member-employees of that office. If you do not donate or attend meetings, your promotion may be denied or still worse you may be transferred to remote village or hill area as punishment. So, you're 'forced' to...!

These are only a few of hundreds of corrupt, inhuman politics in our country.

But, personally, what is most disturbing is the scene when you see underaged 10-12 year old children in political parties' procession - party flags in their soft hands and chanting slogans ! What they know about politics ? Is this the age they are supposed to do this ? Poor, undernourished women carrying their small child piggy-back are so common scenes in such rallies and processions.

Shameful & Unfortunate Incident

Manipur is a beautiful, hilly provincial State of India. Ethnic violence has however disturbed peace nowadays. Strikes or bandhs, protests, destruction of Govt. properties are order of the day. To make things worse and complicated, security forces are often accused of fake encounter killing, torture, rape and other human rights violations.

Unable to bear such atrocities by the Govt. security forces, Manipuri women went to the extent of "naked protestation" against the Govt. Hundreds of completely naked women aged 50 and above protested in front of the HQ of security forces there in full public view.

Such protests are unheard of and unseen before anywhere in India. May be widespread incident of atrocities against women in the State had became too intolerable for them.

In the land of great Mahatma Gandhi whom the whole world remembers in respect what is happening in today's India is most disgraceful and completely the opposite Gandhi would have loved to see.

Just the couple of days ago, when India beat Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test match at Kanpur and became the No.1 team for the first time in ICC's ranking, the Indian cricket board was so foolishly happy that it announced a reward of INR 2.5 millions for each member of the team. What the hell is going on in this country.

In a country where three-fourths of its people live under poverty line, where rationing system of essential food grain and other commodities is still in place like it is war-time, where the world's biggest population of beggars can be seen, where Govt. funded NREGA project pays a labourer INR 100 for a full days hard work... the news of ordinary player getting such huge money for only a match should make any sane citizen of this great country sit up and condemn.

Look at the wealth of today's cricketers and film stars in this country. What special and important services they render to the nation to earn( read loot ) so much money ? They have actually amassed wealth disproportionate to their real worth to the nation. They are NOT important. Soldiers are important, farmers are important, even train drivers are more important than these damn cricketers and film stars. They do serve the nation. They are real heroes. The nation cannot do without them. But what are their conditions ? They continue smoke bidis, wear rubber slippers ...

Playing a few matches or doing a couple of "hit" films, they become millionaires. Even after retirement, these cricketers continue to get huge pension for lifetime ! Wah India, Wah !! Then for the rest of their life they spend the money abroad making holiday trips to exotic places... enjoy life... relax.. as if they deserve it for they have done great jobs for their nation !! Wah, India !

The match fees, contract money, sponsors income, individual advt. fees of a cricketer are more than enough ( they total up to huge amount of income per month ). Why should then these bonuses, incentives, pensions ???? And that too approx. 25-30 times of their single match fee ???

Only a handful of nations ( among them as small as Bangladesh, West Indies, Sri Lanka ) plays cricket. In broader sense it is actually NOT an international game. Except the people of these countries nobody cares about what happens in cricket fields. It is NOT a popular sports world-wide. So actually nothing to get carried away by winning a few matches. Next day certainly you are going to lose to the same team.

The BCCI ( Board of Control for Cricket in India ) should spend its surplus funds to the cause of nation. The Government should compel it to do so.

Example: Harbhajan is probably 10 times richer than Kapil Dev. The former is nothing compared to the calibre and standing of the latter in world cricket. A soldier do not get 25-30 times of his monthly salary as reward if he guns down a dreaded terrorist. Do you find it acceptable ? Is it tolerable ?

This is only one example of mindless distribution of wealth in this country governed by corrupt politicians, administrators. No they will not initiate any steps for they have vested interests, especially politicians, fearing lose of vote banks.

Public Interest Litigation(PIL) must be initiated against the BCCI to stop this kind of mindless flaunting of wealth in a poverty-ridden country like India. The Mahatma will be happy.

Tamil & South Indian Movies ....bold enough !

Talking about Indian movies one will mention Bollywood, Mollywood, Tollywood etc. in lines of famous film city Hollywood in US. Here in India Bollywood refers to films production industry in Mumbai, Mollywood in Madras ( now Chennai) and Tollywood in Tullygunj(West Bengal ). The above three "woods" produce films in their own categories. Bollywood produces mainly Hindi commercial films. Mollywood makes South Indian movies. Tollywood produces only Bengali films.

However, Mollywood is one step ahead of other two. South Indian film makers are bold and their thinking is clear. They want to cater to ever growing present-day audience who look for hot sexual scenes in films. To make their effort more easy there has been no lack of South Indian actresses bold enough to do explicit sexual scenes on-camera.

Lets discuss about the so-called greatest ever batsman in the world of cricket. If you are an Indian, chances are you will jump skyward and shout "Sachin Tendulkar!!". I am also an Indian but I will not. He is simply NOT the greatest batsman ever.

Yes, Sachin Tendulkar is the richest cricketer, he has amassed far more runs than any other cricketer in history, he is also one of the longest playing cricketers, and he has been immensely popular sportsman in India. Yes, despite being so famous he has been modest all his career. He is absolutely gentle. But how many matches he has won for India ? Has he ever been a cause of fear in the hearts of a bowler ? Could he fittingly face the dangerous pace of Michael Holding, Marshall, Roberts, Joel Garner, Imran Khan, Dennis Lillee, Bruce Reid ( without those protective gears such as helmet etc. ) ??? Buses are Indians' favourite means of transport, no doubt. They rattle along country roads taking the villagers to melas or screeches through the cities over-loaded with officer-goers clinging to the sides and backs, window-bars, and the shirt-tails of other passengers !! They come in every sizes & shapes & conditions, from dilapidated double-deckers to miniacal minibuses.
Even though they look comical to the onlookers and the world, nevertheless they constitute the cheapest possible mass public transport system in the world ! Unfortunately, the bus drivers' notoriety to plough into pedestrians and drive off the bridges also makes them among the most dangerous !

Manipur ~ The Switzerland of India

In a vast land called India, there is a small, hilly provincial State called Manipur. It lies in the north-eastern region of India. Though small in size, it is a very important State. It has international borders with Burma.

Manipur literally means "land of jewels". The State owes its name to a mythological story in the Mahabharata, the great Indian epic. Citizens of this State are called meiteis.

During the last decade, the State has been in constant news due to bad reasons ~ violence, human rights abuse both by ethic extremist groups and security forces.

Imphal is the capital of Manipur. It is located in a picturesque setting ~~ seven hills surround it from all sides like the great wall of China.

In general, residents are cordial and decent. The State is a powerhouse of art, culture and sports, save cricket. Famous Manipuri classical dance can be seen at any important national cultural program all over India.

Manipuri ladies are probably the most decently dressed anywhere. Their traditional dress is unique which has no slightest similarity anywhere in entire India. They look so gorgeous and respectable in their traditional dress ( phanek and inafee ).

A cemetery of World War victims, mostly English, is located here. There is a nice polo ground here. Polo is said to have originated from Manipur.

There is LokTak lake. Which is one its kind in the world. Here many fishing families live in "floating houses" on this lake.

The best time to visit Manipur is during the spring. You will see first hand many of Manipuri traditional festivals and cultural programs.

Oh My God ! An unknown fact here: There is an interesting market place in Manipur called "Ima Keithel" where only women sells things and men are the buyers / customers !! I doubt you will see such a scene anywhere in the entire world ! It is said to be more than 100 years old. Women power !

For a breastfeeding woman, breast discharge should come only in the form of milk. However, for others, any kind of breast discharges should be cause for concern. The discharges may happen while sleeping or at any time during the day. Although in most cases such discharges are benign and normal, nevertheless a woman should still seek medical attention as there have been instances of such cases turning to infections.

There are many reasons of breast discharges. Some involving physiological changes or caused by medications that trigger certain reactions in the body.

Though such discharges may look like milk but they are not really milk. It can be brought about by hormonal changes during pre-menopause. Here a woman's health is in transition. Hence breast discharges may happen as a part of body's reactions.

Due to frequent squeezing. This can cause some discharge from the breasts. It is widely discouraged because it may induce the breasts to release some discharges of fluids that are not a normal occurrence.

Due to drugs and medications. Birth control pills and hormone replacement therapies are known to cause such discharges because they affect hormonal balances in the body.

War between CHINA and INDIA.

Which Asian country is most envied by her neighbors ? Ans: India.

Because of its huge size, vibrant economy, prosperity, worldwide goodwill and clean image, rich diverse cultures, and true democracy.

None of its neighbor nations in Asia can boast of all these qualities. And that's probably why they want to weaken India out of pure jealousy.

One thing looks very, very odd and shameful. The small countries surrounding India have no cultural, historical links with China. All their religious, cultural roots lie in India. Even though they will side up with China. So much in the name of jealousy ? So much in the name of envy ?

I have recently read in newspapers about Chinese blue-print of disintegrating India from within with the help of such small nations surrounding India and with support from separatist groups operating on Indian soil.

Politicians play funny games, sometimes dangerous games. Sometimes they have to play such games to stay in power, just to divert attention of people from national burning issues, to regain confidence of general public of their countries to rule them.

And there is a big difference between autocracy / dictatorship / military rule and democracy. China is not a democracy. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal though have elected Governments, but their policies and decisions are grossly influenced by other elements outside the government like fundamentalist / extremist groups.

Should India attack China, it will be the desire of its entire population. On the other hand, if China do so, it will be a personal decisions of a few powerful persons ruling the country. Not its entire population as a whole. This is the difference between democracy and other ideologies.

Time has changed.

Wars are not fought with swords, bow & arrow any longer. No longer they are fought for months and years with no decisive results.

And it is not 1962 either. India is a confident country now. All business roads lead to India now.

Attack it, it will counter attack you in befitting manner. Drop that hell-ball, it will also do so to you. And she has many friends mightier than you.

The result will be zero.

Charismatic Nargis

Enigmatic is the word I will use to begin this article. No Indian actor or actress deserves this title more than her. She is undoubtedly the greatest actress of all time in Indian cinema. She was probably the most gorgeous actress to have graced the Indian cinema screens. Greta Garbo of Indian cinema ??

She looked mysterious from every angle. That's probably the main attraction of her face. Had sharp features. Sleepy eyes, alluring lips.

Nargis - the name of a flower. She was born on June 1, 1929 in Kolkata(West Bengal). Her real name was Fatima Rashid. Name of her parents - Jaddanbai and Uttamchand Mohanchand.

Her performance had a touch of reality, never looked artificial. Her role often had a tragic ending. She was at her best in films, "Mother India", "Andaaz" and "Raat Aur Din". I have personally watched Raat Aur Din more than 50 times. It is still one of my favourite Bollywood films.

Recognition & achievements:
* Best Artistes of the Millennium by the Hero Honda in 2001 along with Amitabh Bachchan.
* Indian Government awarded her the Padma Shree ( the first time this award was given to a film actor).
* She was nominated to Rajya Sabha ( Upper House of Indian Parliament) in 1980 in recognition of her charity work for spastics.

She got married to Sunil Dutta ( who saved her life from an accidental fire on the sets of Mother India )on March 11, 1958.

Nargis suffered from pancreatic cancer and passed away on May 3, 1981 at the age of 52. Condoling her premature death, former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi said,
" Her friendly, vivacious face will long continue to cheer up people". She left behind three children -Sanjay, Anju and Priya.

Interesting and unknown fact:
Nargis acted in a Greek film : Tosa Oneira Stous Dromous (1968).

Indian cinema will always remember her. Such beautiful, talented actress don't come easily.

She is my favourite Indian actress.

Inspirational quotes indeed about wrinkles. But the truth is almost everybody dislikes getting old ( or for that matter looking old).

In pursuit of attaining eternal youthfulness, man ( and woman) has, since time immemorial, looked for ways and means to keep their skin smooth and youthful. But alas ! Nature does not care. It has its uncompromising ways of functioning. Slowly but steadily and surely it takes over our body.

When old age descends on someone's life, the most visible sign is the wrinkles on his / her face. It is natural. The skin will become loose and sagging.

Like it or not, fact is : women are more worried about wrinkles than men.They think they must look youthful ( no wrinkles ) to impress others especially men folk. But I would say this is a wrong notion. You can have wrinkles and still be desirable.

MAD MAX !

A recent newspaper report expresses concern about how UK nukes could go off like popcorn accidentally. Should this happen, what would be the picture ? Wide-spread devastation ( fire-tenders will be of no use ! ) and most of the UK destroyed without any trace of life.

It is a mad & bad world. So many countries have piled up so many nukes for what reason ? What justify this madness ?

They argue that it is for self-defense or as a deterrence. But logically one country would never need thousands of nukes to defend or destroy another country given the capacity of destruction of modern nukes. Only a dozen will be more than enough for any such heinous act.

In fact ever since its invention, the nuclear weapon has been a curse on entire humankind.

Every child born today enters into this highly risky world. And how unfortunate they are.

Whether present generation could live to see it or not, it is almost certain in future the WW III will broke out and it will be fought over oil or food for sure. And then these thousands of nukes are bound to be used and we mankind will mutually agree (!) to destroy ourselves.

Actually nuclear weapons are WMD( weapons of mutual destruction).

Serious efforts should be initiated by major powers to ban this weapon and totally destroy the existing stockpile in the entire world.

The Difference Between Trust and Fate

The difference between trust and fate is very subtle.

On the surface it seems they mean exactly the same thing, but in reality they are diametrically opposite experiences.

Fate is consolation. We are poor, and we see others getting richer and richer -- some consolation is needed. We do everything and we do it honestly, truthfully, morally. We never use wrong means ; still we are a failure. And we see others being dishonest, cunning, insincere, immoral, criminal, using all kinds of wrong means and succeeding, becoming richer, attaining power, prestige. How to explain it ?

It is not new. Since the very beginning man has been puzzled by it. And he had to create idea as a consolation. Fate, kismet, destiny, God --- everything is written in the lines of our hand, in the lines of our forehead ; everything is predetermined in our birth chart, we cannot do anything against it.

The forces that have determined our life are too big. We are going to fail; it is better to accept our failure as destiny. It hurts less to say it is fate ; it gives consolation. It is not our doing, it is not our failure --- what can we do against the stars ? we cannot determine our birth time and the day and the year.

We come into the world just like an actor comes onto the stage fully prepared. We cannot change anything. Once in a while, however, actors can change things, because a drama is a drama ….

TRUST is not fate. It is a totally different thing. It means, “ Whatever happens, we are part of existence and existence cannot be intentionally inimical to us. If sometimes it feels that it is, it must be our misunderstanding ”.

Trust is unconditional. It may be trust in God or in someone we love and respect. It is our personal, intimate contact with reality. And there is great harmony. We are completely at ease and at home. Trust is the outcome of deep meditation.

So there is a big difference between trust and fate.

My Words ....

It is not financially possible for everybody to be a globetrotter.

But the desire to know different cultures, places and people remains in every human being’s heart. And one day most of us will die with that desire remaining unfulfilled. So lets at least share our views through the Internet.

Life is not a bed of roses, it is rightly said. We experience more grief than joy in life. Natural calamities, wars, poverty adds more grief to our lives.

And misunderstanding among nations, civilizations and individuals make life even more hell-like.

Today we do not anymore find or hear about philosopher, saint , poet and great musician. Such great personalities seem to have no place in today’s society. Like Dinosaurs they are a lost species.

By exchanging ideas and views, though living continents apart, one finds like-minded people around the world. The Internet is a God-send gift making this possible today.

We ordinary people may not have the power to change the course of the world overnight, but by sharing ideas we can know each other’s problems, hopes, desires, dreams…. And hopefully help the powerful find solutions to the problems facing our world today.

We ordinary people only have hope and a prayer.
